Paradox with FedoraForums
Hello everybody.
After several times installing Debian 4.0 I realized about an interesting 'feature'/issue of Fedora Forums.
Despite the fact this forum focuses in a great Linux distribution based upon free open source software, it is necessary to have MS True Type fonts installed for the forum to see alright in both Iceweasel (Firefox) and Galeon, I mean, without them it would show ugly fonts.
I spent a brief period of time before I was suggested (and installed) the Debian package containing the mentioned True Type fonts, but before I did it the only page I noticed to have the problem of ugly fonts was FedoraForum.
This is just a comment, I am not trying to blame anybody because I suppose the Forum is hosted using an 'external' service (I've seen several forums with esthetically similar look & feel) not under communities direct control. However it could be nice if our dear administrators/managers comment on the issue.
Thanks.
Joe.

The HTML is jealously guarded by Ewdi, who alone can make changes. Got to remember that the Forum is a private enterprise and not officially a part of Fedora. As such, we can comment on 3rd. party repos. and techniques to handle non-FOSS stuff, which are off-limits elsewhere. Tell ya what; come up with a good font that you'd think appropriate and kick in a recommendation and I'll move this thread over to Feedback and Suggestions at that time.

Very well then, I'll think in a good font, I remember a nice one I saw once in OpenOffice.org but don't remember the name.
I recall having read something about some compatible fonts released by Red Hat, do you know something about it? It would be great to implement RH's fonts!
Joe.

I was gonna suggest Tahoma but I think you found the correct fonts up there.

Joe.
What font you are looking at is in your browser/install and how it is setup.
A server normally only "suggests" using a font and if your install has that one, the browser uses it if available.
If it doesn't have an exact match, it uses default fonts or types installed for that "type" (mono/sans/serif, etc)
click edit button in FF (or where preferences are in which ever distro) --preferences--content--(fonts advanced button) and edit or setup what you like--even uncheck the "Allow pages to select the fonts,,,,,,," box to force all pages to display more or less the same way--be careful here because some pages display a bit funny sometimes then.

Check the 'View > Page Source" and you'll find these fonts posted:
font-family: verdana, geneva, lucida, 'lucida grande', arial, helvetica, sans-serif

Theres a setting in firefox that lets you choose your own fonts ( I agree the forum fonts are bad )
