Sony VAIO Installation problem

Sony VAIO VGN-T250P
Pentium M 1.2GHz 753 Dothan ULV

Wikipedia says Pentium Ms are i686, so I downloaded the Live CD version. I managed to get thru the installation (erased entire hdd and used default settings). Closed the install window and used the Live CD menu to restart. After post, the screen would go blank and have a blinking cursor on the top left.

Any ideas?
