Hey GUYS after 25 years of school/ 7 years of Windows experience

I want to say that I LOVE LINUX. Sorry, that was wrong...

I LOVE TEXT BASED SYSTEM... - that is more like it.

Education vise - 5 years of programming - everything to anything starting with UNIX, C, C++, JavaScript, Java etc... I ask myself - why didn't anyone tell me about Linux.

Configuring DNS - hey download BIND and modify named - setup .zone or .db file and enter the hosts file YOU ARE DONE.....

Static IP - hey no problem just modify ifcfg-eth* file...

I am still learning, and I am learning in big steps, having more and more fun with every new server task I take on. All those years learning and using windows, I never had put my knowledge to test in real environment, on a real system, on LINUX UNIX BOX.. AGHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

So far I love it (just the amount of knowledge one must master to operate these Linux boxes to the fullest of its potentials, wow - mindbogling) and the community is +1

Yeah - now you need 7 months of "deprogramming" to overcome the 7 years of Windoze.

As you can see the great thing abt Linux is that it's all right there in front of you and you can (with a little digging) tweak anything you want to. Heck you can download the sources and change anything or everything. This is very much unlike the MS-knows-best world. The price of this freedom is that somewhere on the planet right this very minute someone is re-writing every single tool on your system and so things will look a bit different next month and next year and so on ... it;s continual learning to really keep-up.

I wasn't quite sure if this was sarcasm. In any case, welcome to the community.

Text based systems? Ehh.. you mean text file based configuration?
Anyways, welcome and I hope you have a great time here :-)

BTW, most of these things can easily be edited using scripts and GUI based programs.

Yes Yes - I prefer programmers approach - it is nice to have GUI but if you want to make it do something - text is the best.
Still a lot to learn ..

I'm also a fan of text based setups.

#1 it's simple to make a backup
#2.it's extremely easy to document
#3.it's very easy to set back up in the event of a crash.

It sounds like you're in love. Very good. My sentiments also, I only wish I had your
programming skills.
