Anyone up for a walk down memory lane?

I currently have an ASUS (rebranded ATI) Radeon 9800XT. Great card still (in Windows), but it's pokey slow in Xorg (with the radeon or fglrx drivers).

I don't want to upgrade my entire system just so I can get a PCI-E card, I'd much rather get a compareable NVidia card from back in the AGP days instead.

Can anyone recommend an AGP NVidia card that is snappy in Xorg (2D is my main concern)?

You can get modern chips in an AGP card, such as the 6000 and 7000 series (NVIDIA). I have on-board GF4 running Beryl and I consider it very smooth, so I would imagine an FX5200 or better should be great. I'm thinking of getting a $30-40 FX5200, myself. I'd recommend looking around Price Watch for AGP cards in your price range.

I run a GeForce4 MX 420 pci on one box and have a GeForce 6200 AGP 4X in another and they both work well with FC6 and F7.
