When I first booted Fedora 7 after installing it, the display resolution was 1300ish X <something> (I don't remember exactly). This setting did not work. So I changed the resolution to 1024 X 768 but that also caused the color depth to change from thousands of colors to millions of colors. Because of the limitations of my video adapter, that resulted in very poor performance so I changed the color depth back to thousands of colors but that resulted in also changing the resolution to 1600 X 1200. So I changed the display setting a third time, changing the resolution back to 1024 X 768 and this time that's all that changed so I have the settings I want: resolution 1024 X 768 and color depth of thousands of colors.
The question is: Why does changing one (resolution or color depth) cause a change in the other?
It took three setting changes to get to the settings I wanted. Very annoying!
Thanks
Jim
