(UNOFFICIAL) Dell Linux yum repository (UNOFFICIAL)

So I did a search for "FC8" in Google. No particular reason; I just felt like seeing what it would bring up. I came across this. It looks like Dell has some kind of software repository for FC5-6, F7-8, and even RHEL3-5 and Debian Etch.

I did a quick forum search and didn't see anything about this (at least not any dedicated threads). Did anyone know about this? Does anyone with Dell hardware wanna try it out and let us know what all they offer? I don't have any Dell computers (can't stand 'em), so I don't wanna try setting it up on one of my non-Dell machines (though I could always try it virtually).

I'd just like to know what all they have. Proprietary hardware drivers and software to make setting up a Dell laptop with Fedora a breeze? I could be persuaded to not hate them so much if this were the case .

It looks interesting. I cruised through and they seem to have both bios and firmware tools available. It would be interesting (dangerous?) to see if they are generically applicable (ie can I download a fresh bios from asus and apply it with the dell software?).

Hmm, maybe dell is quietly supporting fedora/Red Hat?

I have no idea what those packages do, so I'd advise any Dell users out there to NOT add this to your yum repos just yet.

Unless you're frisky and wouldn't mind reinstalling your system (or bricking your hardware) .

Dell has supported various Linux's for quite a while.
http://linux.dell.com/distributions.shtml
That link has some Deb/RPM type bios support tools I might look into.
Looks like the module tool has been there for a bit-- 2003?

Of course you would expect them to have Debian packages available for their Dellbuntu machine. Maybe the Fedora packages have been genetically altered and infused with some of Microsofts tainted stem cells.

We better look into that, who knows maybe we can get our Fedora's to "work right outta da box" like the 'buntu clan! Just pay Billy to play!
