Just introducing myself

Heyup folks!

Just thought I aught to introduce myself as I am new round here.

My name is Mic, I am a crazy mixed up batchelor early-30-something from just outside Leeds in Yorkshire, England.

Been mucking about in the Linux world for a few years now always at "fetus" level never really getting stuck in until recently, when I started using openSuse, then Ubuntu and finally settled on Fedora 7 (initially Core 6) as my sole OS at home (apart from WinXP and Vista VM's which I need for developing and supporting clients).

Have found a few good apps which makes my life a lot easier, NoMachine NX for remoting and VirtualBox for my VM's (I am a Windows/Internet developer by profession) and look forward to expanding those horizons as I go.

Hope to getting really stuck in on here, seeking advice and helping where I can and also just enjoying your social side as well.

My system is roughly as follows:
  • Epox EP-9NDA3J MoBo
  • Athlon X2 4200+ dual core CPU (water cooled)
  • 4GB DDR RAM
  • Leadtek NVidia 256Mb 6800GT
  • 500Gb SATA LVM
  • LiteOn LightScribe DVD
  • Pioneer 108i Dual Layer DVD Burner
  • Custom built 10 Disc DVD Duplicator (I also do CD/DVD design and duplication for unsigned bands and Wedding DVD's etc)
  • Epson r265 and Epson r200 printers
  • old Canon N1020 USB Scanner
  • numerous other gadgets including Dazzler Video Digitiser, Twinhan and Pinnacle DVB-T TV cards

Welcome to the asylum, Mic. Doctors Bob, Dan, Seve or JN4 will be along soon for your preliminary check-up and to decide what ward you belong in

Cheers Wayne..

I'll get ready to cough then shall I?

Good to see the close link with CAMRA and Linux is still going strong! Got a nice keg of Hogsback AOT (Aromas over Tongham not A**e over T*t) at 9.5% to attack this weekend!

I'm sitting here licking my lips! That brew sounds tasty! Actually, I'm not a CAMRA member. We have our own, much smaller organisation here called The Good Beer Club. Obviously geared towards Japanese beer lovers. We formed an English-speaking off-shoot called Tokyo BEERS. One of the founders of the GBC is also a member of Tokyo BEERS so we get all the information they get but not the discounts as we don't have any fees or dues.

Right now I'm looking at what's left of two 10 litre kegs of a pils and a dunkel type beers on my home server!

Welcome Mic. One question though. Do you have a license for that thing?

Compared to my linux box - 900Mhz, 256Mb RAM - that could run NASA!

Welcome, Mic. Great to have you with us! That machine is awesome, but as you know, here you're mostly judged by your BEER! Before installation, at least a pint is mandatory and with the first glitches, we immediately double the quantity. As you can tell from my posts, I only pass out advice after consuming my first gallon of the day, as anyone foolish enough to follow it soon finds out.

Seriously though, we hope you'll have a long and friendly relationship both with Fedora and our Forum.

Bob, you forgot the ' Wibble' rules. Avoid politics and religion, but it's open season on M$ 24/7/365!

Hi Mic,
Suddenly realised that despite two posts on this thread I hadn't really introduced myself. I'm a fellow Brit., as you can see from my location, and I've been Windows-free for about a year and a half. I'm also a bit of an amateur psychologist, you may come across my opinions on the occupants of the Redmond asylum in places such as wibble!
At the moment I'm without Fedora, as I'm one of the sad band who've had insurmountable install problems, so I'm running SAM Linux - recommended by Bob - on my desktop and laptop, while I wait to see how F8 turns out. Meanwhile I'm lurking around, partly because Linux is Linux and I may learm something useful, and partly because I'd miss this bunch of lunatics!

Welcome to the rest of your life.
This form is addicting and so is Linux (as you can tell) and I hope you have the best of experience with both. Linux just takes a little patience. I would like to take a quote from the classic Guns-N-Roses song Patience to lighting the mood and give you some inspiration.
(in the worst singing voice you could imagine)
“...little patience, need a little patience, just a little patience, some more patience,
(come on everyone join in)
need some patience, could use some patience, gotta have some patience, yeah all it takes is patience, just a little patience is all you need”

Ok so maybe I've had a few to many beeerrrrppp
