Trouble with Skype USB phone

I have just installed Skype into my computer and then went out to buy an internet phone, I chose a Cypress Semiconducter core USB phone. I went on soundcard detection and the device had shown up but no sound was detected. Is there anything I can do to solve the problem and get the phone to work please?

I decided to exchange the Cypress phone for a USRobotics USR019601A and now my problems have multiplied. Firstly my pc doesn't register the phone working I get the PC and phone icons with an "x" in the phone window, then, although I can hear the test call I can't get my mic to work for the call test and finally when the phone is plugged in it makes all other operations freeze. Have I chosen the wrong phone to use? If so can any of you recommend one. BTW I am using the KDE ATM
