Nvidia Problems, need help! (Fedora 7)

I have an Nvidia GF MX4000 64 MB DDR TV PCI, at least thats what the card says. and i have to install without it using my Onboard Video Card which is on a ABIT Motherboard with a Celeron 2.0 Ghz Processor with 1GB of RAM.

My Problem,

Once installed i can install my Nvidia card. it will say it cant, but it will generate a configuration that is useable. i make my resolution my nice 1028x1024 or something around there. haha and it looks really sketchy and i cant use my awesome desktop effects. makes me sad.

im installing a fresh new fedora 7 so i make sure i dont do anything wrong.

i ran the gears thing and i was at a very embarassing 50 fps, actually i think thats bad, but im not sure hah

can someone please help me!? ive tried i think everything. but if someone has any experience with this card. please. help!

You need to disable your onboard video card. Either in the bios setup program, or maybe a jumper on the mainboard.

The default open source nvidia drivers are 2d only - 3d is software rendering (very very slow). You will need to install the real nvidia drivers - www.nvidia.com

i already have it installed now, they are both enabled, but the nvidia is running now, but at a very slow framerate, i donno about 50 fps according to the gears.. at the default size.

so running the official nvidia drivers should kind of get everything working a little better?

thanks for your help! (only if this works!) haha jk

Yes. Using the official nvidia drivers will get your performance up to standard.

You will have to download and install the livna F7 repository file. Just google livna and follow the instructions. After that, search for kmod-nvidia and install it through yum.

Did you install the correct one? To test if the driver is enabled, run glxgears in the terminal. The fps should be very high.
