On the add/remove software utility, I did have a checkmark on the update. This is what I am getting :

when enter: $ freshclam

ERROR: Please edit the example config file /etc/freshclam.conf.
ERROR: Can't parse the config file /etc/clamd.conf

Now, on the etc folder, I got the clam.d folder with the milter.conf folder inside it. I diidnt see any other.
is this right.

you need to be the root user to edit those files..

from the terminal do a

su -

and enter your root password..

then

gedit /etc/freshclam.conf

then you can save it.

That did it and the save option showed up too. Thank you very much. I guess I can do the same with the php.ini file too. Thanks once again.

@ telepatico
what you can also do is to comment (as root add #) the last line of the /etc/sysconfig/freshclam file (no .conf extension here).
It will launch the auto-update of freshclam every three hours.
