1st Boot stops at "Umcompressing Linux ... OK, booting the kernel"

I have just installed FC7 from DVD that I dl'ed and burnt.
The installation went as expected.
However when the time came to reboot I got the message shown in the subject.

Previously the machine was running the pre-release build, everything was working fine (well the wireless network was really bad) - until approximately the day of the official release of FC7.

On that day I ran the Software Update and got the latest fixes and the machine would not reboot! The message was the same!

Hardware
=======
Dell Latitude D820 laptop
Intel Core2 Duo 2GHz
Intel graphics chipset
1GB RAM

Dual boot with Windows XP via Grub (which still works fine)

Partition Layout: 1 partiton for XP, 1 /boot 100Mb ext2, Linux configured with LVM with / 30GB ext3, Swap 2GB

The full screen contents are as follows:

Booting 'Fedora (2.6.21-1.3194.fc7)'

root (hd0,2)
Filesystem type is ext2fs, partition type 0x83
kernel /vmlinuz-2.6.21-1.3194.fc7 ro root=/dev/VolGroup00/LogVol00 rhgb quiet
[Linux-bzImage, setup=0x1e00, size=0x1c9dd4
initrd /initrd-2.6.21-1.3194.fc7.img
[Linux-initrd @ 0x37c8b000, 0x364f2a bytes]

Uncompressing Linux... OK, booting the kernel.

This is a known issue with Dell laptops and the FC7 kernel. Currently the two solutions I know of are to append either:
maxcpus=1
or
clocksource=acpi_pm

as a kernel parameter.

this is the F7 portion of my grub.conf
Code:
title Fedora (2.6.21-1.3194.fc7)
        root (hd0,0)
        kernel /vmlinuz-2.6.21-1.3194.fc7 ro root=/dev/system/f7 rhgb quiet clocksource=acpi_pm
        initrd /initrd-2.6.21-1.3194.fc7.img

I didn't want to open new topic for this question cos it's very similar to this one, at least i think so
I installed F7 from a DVD that I downloaded and burned, everything went pretty well until it was time to reboot...
when it rebooted all the msgs were fine, but when the time came to display welcome screen I just got a white screen with some of the black parts in the middle of the screen where it displays my user name...and it hangs there, its like that every time. I don't have a clue what to do so if anyone has, please help...
thanks in advance,
magzi

cause

Does anyone know the root cause of this problem? I will test to see if it only happens with the first kernel on the installation disc of Fedora 7 and post the results.
