Fedora 7 missing apps?

Hi folks, I downloaded the F7 DVD (x86) and installed. I can't find K3b or Thunderbird. I checked the DVD but couldn't find them there either. On the download sites I see a folder called "everything", with the missing programs plus a whole lot of other goodies.
Can anyone explain what I did wrong? ... thanks

Hello:
You did nothing wrong ..
Unfortunately the apps you are looking for were not included on the dvd.iso
However, they are availbe via yum or pirut etc. from the default repositories.

why did they do this? was it just to minimise download time on the DVD? not that I'm complaining, I went from finding out that F7 was released to using F7 in about an hour and a half

Yep. Reduce download size was one of the goals. See https://www.redhat.com/archives/fedo.../msg00798.html

Using the installable live cd's is a option too

Hello:
Installing the live cd's is an excellent option for an i386 install, unfortunately the live 86_64 cd is not really a cd as it will not fit onto one ? That is unless, you can find a cd of ~ 800 meg in size ... go figure ..

However, you can burn it to a dvd and you should be fine.

Reducing size is ok for those who have broadband, but folks like myself are on dialup. I downloaded the dvd at work. Moreover, if someone has broadband to begin with then he's not hindered by the size of the download file, is he? This is absurd!
Aah well, if I download the "everything" folder and put it on a DVD, is there any way to make the installer see it ?

The problem is that with the merger of Core and Extras there are too many packages to include every single package....even for a DVD. Decisions had to be made to decide what gets included and what gets left out. Besides, they're putting alot of emphasis now on creating your own spin if you want to customize the packages.

No but the users are and we care about that. The total number of packages in a media would around 9 GB.

PS: You should stop baiting me unncessarily.

One word karma

I consider that you have baited me in the past and abused the position of community manager.

Enough said , I think we should avoid each other and leave it at that.

No. I disagreed with you in a technical discussion and you got personal unnecessarily in more than one thread which is against the forum guidelines and which I warned you against. If you got a problem with that talk to the administrators. What you are doing currently is not going to help you.
