Command line ONLY Fedora

I installed an older version of fedora (core-3) on an OLD PII laptop with very little RAM. Its function will be to take timelapse photos.

I dont want X Win starting up as the machine is low on ram.

During install I left out any X packages but the damn machine still boots X and gives me a crap terminal to work from.

All I want is a prompt, no X, no GUI.. Anyone suggest a simple method of disabling X alltogether ? Ie good ole text only Linux...

cheers
matt

is there any method one can use during the install phase to ensure x is not installed ? I thought leaving x-win packages out would do the trick but alas no..

Edit /etc/inittab

Find the line that says:
id:5:initdefault:

Change it to say:
id:3:initdefault:

Now, every time it boots, it'll boot into Run Level 3 - Command line only. Regardless of whether you have X or anything else GUI oriented installed or not.

If you want to see what it's like - just run the command:
init 3
As root.
