usb mount problem

Hello,

I have Fedora Core 5, and I have a problem with mounting usb devices.
When I type ' mount -t usbfs none /proc/bus/usb', I get the reply:
mount: none already mounted or /proc/bus/usb busy
mount: according to mtab, none is already mounted on /proc/bus/usb

I understand that this means the usb is automatically mounted.
But /proc/bus/usb is empty ('ls /proc/bus/usb' gives nothing), no subdirectory devices or any thing, and the usb devices do not work.
This happens in more than one computer, so does not seem a hardware problem.
Also, this situation is not changed if I add a usbfs line to /etc/fstab.

Can anyone help ?

Thanks

It's not entirely clear what you are trying to achieve here. /proc is a pseudo file system - you can't mount any block devices here.

If it is a usb stick or external drive you want to mount then use a mount point such as /mnt or /media.

I did try to mount a usb stick: mount /dev/sda1 /mnt/flash, but 'ls /mnt/flash' has nothing.
/proc/bus/usb remains empty. Does this not indicate a problem with the usbfs ?

I had a similar problem - unable to mount usb drives. Installing the pmount package solved the problem
