ACPI battery exception

Dear forum-readers,

Currently I'm running kernel 2.6.21-1.3194.fc7 on my Acer Aspire 1640z series notebook.
For a long time (cannot remember when it exactly started) I get a ACPI battery exception.
And I believe as a result my system crashes after a short while (it stalls, cannot even move mouse anymore, forced to reboot).
The problem does not occur when I boot with acpi=off (but then i have no wireless network, no battery monitoring, no sound, etc.)

Here's the output of 'dmesg' right after booting (showing the battery exception)
http://pastebin.ca/521746

I think FC6 was running without problems, and I considered reinstalling it. However, the knoppix dvd (5.1.1 I believe) had the same problem.
What would really help is if somebody could inform me whether this could be a hardware problem. Is there any hope this gets fixed in the near future?

Thanks for any replies.
