MythTv... No TV

So I finally decided to have a whirl with a MythTv setup on an old box of mine. I purchased a hauppauge 150 card and got everything setup using KnoppMyth. Now, I believe I have everything configured right but I have a serious problem. When I click on "Watch TV" i definitely don't get anything but a black screen with a few white lines crossing it. Now I know the card works because after much frustration I plugged in a coax cord from my cable modem jack and into the card and it could see most of the channels. Now here is my question.... Did I buy the wrong type of card because I have "digital cable?" I am hoping (really hoping) this is not the case.. I mean, That's what the cable box is for right, "decrypting" the digital signals..???? It plays fine on extremely old tv's... not sure why it wouldn't play on the card. I'm running the coax from the "TvOut" of the digital cable box to the pci-card. Hoping for a good response from some of you guys that have more experience with the whole tv recording thing.

I am a little confused. Can you clarify your set up?

Are you going cable->cable decoder box->hauppauge card?

If that is the case, this page suggests you will be fine, but will need to change the channels on the cable box (or with the infrared thingy).

In which case, it might simply be a tuning / channel configuration thing for the Hauppauge and MythTV. Have you tried the Video4Linux and MythTV wikis?

Digital cable is encrypted. You need a CableCard to be able to decrypt it. The non-digital channels should work without issue, however...

Well I got it working partially. If i keep my tuner card on channel 3 I can receive all the channels . I just have to be able to control the set top box. I shouldn't need a cablecard if im using my cable box as that's what the cable box is for.
