Question Router+Samba+2PC's

Greetings Forum Community
My question is.....
I have 2 pc's connected to a Uniden Router w/ DSL. The 1st box is win2k & the 2nd is fedora w/ Samba. I've been wondering how do I setup the fedora box to allow win2k to access it through the router. I understand how to setup samba but I'm stuck with the problem of DHCP. The router has DHCP but, if I allow the router to assign DHCP to both boxes will I be able to access the fedora box w/ samba. If so, does that compromise the security of the network with each box accessing the NET through one nic a piece. Is it best I assign the fedora box w/ two nics and use DHCP on each nic but restrict the router to assigning DHCP to one and statically assign the other nic.

By the way, the router was $19.00 at a Verizon store and It works great you just have to do a Google to find out how to Stealth all the ports. Great buy!

I don't quite understand your problem - your router routes (as far as I understand) only between WAN (Interner - ADSL connection) and LAN (Ethernet switch built into router) so your local machines probably get private class IP's from DHCP - they are not exposed to Internet directly, so there is no compromise. Or I get something wrong. Case with Samba is when you want to use it between two subnets (but you probably don't) then you need to set up WINS server since NetBIOS naming (that's what SMB uses to assign machines names with IP) works via broadcast and rotuers usualy don't route brodcasts between subnets...

Try to specify your question.
