Problem with localhost login
Okay, I know many people have a problem "like" this. But I've searched the forum, and nothing to what I have. So, here it is.
I get kicked to the screen for login, I can type in a username, but after I hit enter, it won't let me type in a password. None of my keys but "enter/return" work. I can't seem to do anything else.
Are there any ideas to solve this? I've searched the forum to no avail. And yes, I'm new at Linux. Much thanks to any support.

When entering the password it is not displayed with any characters or anything. The cursor will not move from this point till password is entered and return is hit. Just type the password and hit enter.

Dear god....with about 200 people reading this one forum...cannot one of ye help me? At least one of you has had this problem before...Please help. I'd like to get my computer back to working order ASAP, not next Christmas, thanks~
I'm not one to rush, but this is a 'support' forum anyways. I thought people knew about Fedora. I guess I didn't provide enough info.

I'm running Fedora Core 6.

Hello:
A few questions ?
1.) Do you recall what you did to your installation immediately before this started happening ?
2.) Can you boot into run level 3 and successfully log in from there ?
When grub appears hit enter then type e [for edit] and add a
3
to your kernel boot line. It should look like this
.....3 rhgb quiet

not sure if this will help, but it sounds like the same situation with my putty.exe logger for VM environments. The cursor never moved or anything, no asterisks, no nothing, but it was taking the keystrokes. Type in the password and hit enter, and it would work.
Have you tried entering your password and then hitting enter?

Okay, I login and type in "startx" then it just takes me to a blank black screen and nothing happens. I've tried "ctrl + alt + f7", it gives me nothing. Should I try to reinstall?
Is this happening because the default install doesn't work? I can only install via "linux text."
Any help?

Hello:
Is this a fresh install ?
If so, can you please post some information about the hardware that you are installing FC6 32bit on.

I don't see "grub" anything, it just starts.
Okay, it loads my OS and I have the option to choose another OS. I don't see anything that says "rhgb quiet."

Hello:
When the grub boot loader appears, if you hit the enter key and then type e
you should see the details of the grub configuration ... 2 or 3 lines of which one will be the kernel boot line, which ends in rhgb quiet

Okay, I saw it, but there is no line "rhgb quiet." Just 3 lines
HDA
kernel
kernel
Basically thats it, nothing below it.

Hello:
If there is nothing there, other than what you described ?
Then you need to do a fresh install.
This time start your installation with typing at the install prompt :
linux mode=vesa resolution=800x600 i686
