Install Internet Explorer on Fedora
I know that most of you may not need this however some sites on the internet are not Linux freindly and as such require IE to view them.
This guide will help you install a version of IE to work on your Fedora machine.
I am getting my information from an online tutorial site and will post the link if the mods will allow it but basicaly it is done in a few steps
first install the required programs
Code:
yum -y install wine*
yum -y install cabextract
Next as your username (the one you use most often)
Code:
wget http://www.tatanka.com.br/ies4linux/downloads/ies4linux-latest.tar.gz
tar zxvf ies4linux-latest.tar.gz
cd ies4linux-*
./ies4linux
The guide on the site show pretty much these steps and does not really go into depth but the installer is extrememly easy to follow and can easily be customized using the advanced mode it asks you about.
I experienced problems witht he flash player if you have the Linux Mozzila equivilant installed so i recomend using advanced mode when it asks and keep all defaults except say no to installing the flash player and just use FireFox for flash powered sites.

I used to use iesforlinux but I have found that installing IE with crossover office works better for some reason.

I've used IEsforlinux for a while and it serves the purpose quite well. I would never use it as a primary browser due to a few quirks, but for testing web pages it works just dandy.
thanks,

Yes that is definately a good use. I primarily use it for the purpose of showing sites i belong to that have browser restrictions to just IE.
Personaly when a website does this it just shows how flexable they are I only go to sites like that when i have to for example. Logging into my ISP account for bill management and what not has to be done through IE

IE only sites should be banned from being created, imho

I do ask for some advice from the more advanced users.
It seems this script installs this into the users home directory what if i want all users to be able to use this program is there a way to make it so i do not need to install this to every user.

Re: Install Internet Explorer on Fedora
has anyone faced this issue before :
Your wine does not have winprefixcreate installed. Maybe you are running an ild wine version. Try to update it to the latest version.
I was also not able to install the ieslinux on my fedora 13 desktop.
My system is up to date and I have installed latest version of wine and ieslinux.

Re: Install Internet Explorer on Fedora
What version of IE is loaded with iesforlinux? I think I have tried it before but the IE version was so outdated that it was hard for me to use.

Now, this isn't guaranteed to work, but here is my suggestion.
Visit the site and read at least the huge text in the header.
Crazy, I know, and while I admit that you won't have a cadre of forum minions handling this task for you, I can promise that once you are done, you will harbor a sense of accomplishment that nobody can take away from you in exchange for tackling this arduous task yourself.

Re: Install Internet Explorer on Fedora
If i remember correctly, but if you install playonliux http://www.playonlinux.com/en/ then it will allow you to install a recent version of IE for you, but havent used it in a while.

Exactly!
Not that I have come across one yet, but I simply wouldn't visit them. Period.
As a web developer myself, before a website/webpage is put on the www, you have to ensure that it works and renders on all mainstream browsers and systems. Any web developer that does not do this is either lazy or simply cutting corners to save them time.

Re: Install Internet Explorer on Fedora
I have also found that MOST sites that say they require IE really don't. If you change your user agent string to make the site think you are using IE, they work.
About the only ones that don't work are some using squirrelly activex, and I try to stay away from that crap anyway.

Re: Install Internet Explorer on Fedora
I just use agent switcher in Firefox or Seamonkey and don't have any problem.
