I finally was able to install FC6 after much frustration (had similar challenges w/FC5). Here are some of the things I overcame and hope that someone might have some insight on this (or can point me to another appropriate, on-point thread):
System: ECS/PCChips M810LR M/B w/Athlon 1800+, 500KB DRAM, 2 Maxtor 200GB drives (connected to an IDE card claimed to be RAID but isn't

, onboard (M/B) video/LAN (tho I installed an xtra NIC card due to functionality issues with onboard LAN), etc.
About 1 year ago, I originally loaded FC5 with great frustration but finally got it up and running and have enjoyed the OS. I recently attempted to upgrade to FC6. A friend had downloaded and DVD'd a version of FC6 (tho unsure how recent) and I used that to perform the install.
The first time I tried to do the FC6 install, it did not bring up any screen asking me if I wanted to upgrade the current config (FC5). It didn't matter because I never got thru a complete install. I reset and tried again and this time the installer did recognize FC5 was installed and asked if I wanted to do a new install or an upgrade. I attempted to upgrade and discovered that was a mistake. I have a sense FC5 got corrupted the very 1st time.
Fast forward to my 5th or 6th attempt. I finally decided to "flatten the hard drives" (reformat with Maxtor S/W) prior to installing. This time it finally went all the way thru and I now have a functional system.
One last problem remains: when I activate shutdown (in FC6), I can see the s/w go thru its routine and eventually indicate all systems are shutdown. However, the computer does not turn off and I have to do so manually (was not a problem in FC5). Any ideas here? Is there a config file somewhere that contains a switch or flag that I can set? Thanks.
Cheers...Steph
