Ati X700

Hi,
I have noticed that my graphics card isn't performing very well in FC6, it can be a bit laggy, graphics wise.
I tried installing the ATI drivers from ATI/AMDs website, but it just messed up the system, even after configuration. I couldn't maximize or minimize windows, so I could only use one window at a time, and so yea, it all messed up from there.
So I uninstalled that, and it is back to step 1.
Any ideas? I have read all these articles, and stickies, but they ethier don't work, tell me to install what I have, not for my card, or I just don't understand it!
i'm am a Linux newbe, I only started using it a week ago, so please explain in depth if you could.
Thanks for any help,
Joe.

Ok, the uname -r comes up with:
2.6.20-1.2944.fc6
and the other one, is there an easy way to copy over the results over?

you can copy & paste the terminal output.

as it is equal use this command to swap

try the second command first as you have already download the latestest kernel

yumdownloader kernel.i686

su -c "rpm -ivh --replacefiles --replacepkgs kernel-2*.i686.rpm"

kernel-module-ntfs-2.6.18-8.1.1.el5xen-2.1.27-0.rr.10.11.i686

Though, I've noticed the i586 is still in there at the start, should it be?

This kernel ( kernel-2.6.18-1.2798.fc6.i586 ) will be deleted next time there is a kernel update and is not a problem.

Ah, Ok, thanks.
So, now back to the driver, it says to change the drivername to radeon, but it is already set to that.
And the next bit, it says about Rawhide, and nvidia, but this is for ATI isn't it?
Thanks,
Joe.

su -

Ok, on the update, I guess this just means there was no updates:
Quote:
Loading "installonlyn" plugin
Setting up Update Process
Setting up repositories
Reading repository metadata in from local files
Could not find update match for xorg-x11-drv-fglrx
Could not find update match for kmod-fglrx
Could not find update match for xorg-x11-drv-fglrx-libs-32bit
No Packages marked for Update/Obsoletion
then the service fglrx restart, it came up with an error:
Quote:
bash: service: command not found
Does it matter? Should I continue to the next command?
Thanks
