blank screen on evesham widescreen laptop (ati700)

During the instalation of Fedora 6 my laptop screen goes blank after the media check. At first i thought it was hanging, but if i press the keys as if to continue the instalation(from memory) the drives spin up, and instalation continues but still a blank screen. I did a text install, which ran fine, but when i tried startx, the same problem. but even though its blank i can still shut down. Tried pluging laptop to a projector, and it picked up a resolution of 800x600, but displayed nothing. i am reall stuck.

Its an evesham, with the radeon express 200p chipset, with radeon mobility 700 graphics.

Sorry for such a long first post, but i am reall stuck.

thanks.
(edit: sorry, pressing keys from memory)

edit your xorg.conf file so the appropriate resolution for the monitor is used. exotic dimenstions on laptop screens have screwed me over a few times.

Trying it now, but i cant find the file anywhere. am i right in thinking its in /etc/x11/
and using nano to edit it. I might just be wrong. I tried setting the resolution for graphical install but to no avail. any editing help would be most appreciated.

Hi,
I had the same problem.
The problem is, is that it is searching for an external monitor, and not using your laptop one.
You can use an external monitor though.
Anyways, http://forums.fedoraforum.org/showthread.php?p=777422 read that, and edit that file.

/etc/X11/xorg.conf should be edited under the screen section, subsection display,
there should be a line called modes where you specify working resolutions for your monitor. remember to restart your X session after changing the file with ctrl+alt+bkspace
