Opera Users - Whatabout Other Browsers

Opera has currently poll on asking users' operating system and results so far are quite interesting:
Code:
What operating system do you use?
A Windows version, but not specified here (451 votes)

Other Mac OS than specified here (75 votes)

Other (407 votes)

Mac OS X (699 votes)

Windows 3.x (122 votes)

Windows XP (3948 votes)

Windows Vista (675 votes)

Mandrake Linux (90 votes)

Ubuntu (360 votes)

Unix / Linux, but not specified here (374 votes)

Just over 10 per cent are Unix/Linux users and more than Mac users. Of course these polls should always be taken with a pinch of salt, would be nice to know if similar stats apply to Firefox though.

Hey, neat.

The Other category is hard to see at first, but I guess that's Win 9x and 2000.

edit: Poor souls out there still using Win 3.x!

If it weren't impossible to setup websites to run videos I would use Opera.

Embedding videos to webpages don't exactly have anythng to do with a browser. On the other hand, if you mean that you don't know how to configure Opera to use media plugins, have a look here: http://www.opera.com/linux/docs/plugins/install/

Of course, you need to have all relevant codecs installed as well.

I use Opera on fedora, I changed when firefox kept crashing and never looked back. Its small considering it has everything I need ie; no need to install plug-ins.

Videos stream just fine, install codecs same as firefox, opera uses same plugins for me.

The main reason I dont use Opera is that my older brother is a loyal user, and he is so vocal about it he gets on my nerves. Your not helping your cause if you are annoying.

From a technical standpoint, Opera seems bloated to me and takes up more Recourses than Firefox. However, it is the only browser on my Computer that accepts the fact I installed Java. Why are the other Browsers refusing?

I use it for testing and nothing else. I can't browse without the ability to easily block ads. Two hours into finding block lists and manual additions to the list, I realized that Opera wasn't for me.

I also never liked the ethos that they tried to run with. Pay for it or view ads was their battle cry until they realized they were tanking. The performance of the browser didn't warrant purchase and viewing ads created by your browser is about as dumb as forgetting to unzip before emptying your bladder when you think of all of the options available to you in browser-world.

If the RIAA apologized and started handing out coupons for cd's, I still wouldn't buy them.

thanks,
json

kinda have to keep in mind "who" the Opera users are. I would expect to get different results from a bunch of IE users or even FF or SeaMonkey users. Try a bunch of Dillo users and see what you get.

I'm an Opera fan even though some web sites are not properly constructed to W3C standards and this can cause problems for compliant browsers. My second choice is SeaMonkey. Third FF, and then the rare occasion IE but only by force. If I am trying to make a web page, I know I have to test it with IE. You can deny the existence of the 800 lb gorilla in the room with you right up until the point it rips your head off.

Peace and Love,
Pat Jr.

My wife used to like Opera so much that I did actually purchase two licenses. When the next version was released I was pleased to see that we would get a free upgrade, but uh ... I just paid for it, and now you're giving it all away? Grrr... those dirty rat @#$#$%! sons of $$#@ twelve sandwich eatin' slimy @%&! walrus ##@$& pieces of amphibian @#$@. I just know that at the time they took my money they must have already made the decision to make it free.

Needless to say I am not as big of a fan as I used to be. I wouldn't use it at all now, except that it seems to run better than IE or Firefox when I'm emulating Windows 98SE under QEMU on the PS3.

This This This.

I use firefox, even just for ad block plus. Sure, its got a few memory leaks on windows, but it works the best in terms of what i want it to do and performance.

Hi, you made me curious so I checked the stats on my site, albeit not as popular as isohunt.com, tho not far behind*. These are the stats for September (not sure where October went).

Browser Stats:
  • Firefox: 42%
  • IE: 37.4%
  • Unknown: 8.5%
  • Mozilla (Seamonkey): 3.3%
  • Opera: 3%
  • Nokia Browser: 2.6% (really??? spoofed UA?)
  • Konqueror: 2%
  • Safari: 0.6%
OS Stats:
  • Windows: 63.3%
  • Linux: 20.9%
  • Unknown: 11.3%
  • Symbian OS: 2.6%
  • Macintosh: 1.7%
I think the software that generates these stats didn't pass maths since not one of them adds up to 100%, but still better than me doing it manually.

And as a point of interest, 1.7% of users had 'Fedora' in their user agent string.
