Which distro

I have just purchased a new laptop. I tried the new Mepis----It reconized my wireless, but I had no sound. Then I tried opensuse----Had no wireless but had sound. Debian, wouldnt load at all, nor would Sabayon. I should say that I was loading this on a dual boot with Vista.

Any Ideas. I want to try Fedora, I use it on my desktop unit.

Hmm.....Sabayon has some of the best "auto-detection" around right now, mostly due to the fact they include any and every driver available, and some nice scripts.

You can try some boot options or

Just install Fedora and hopefully it recognizes your soundcard and all you have to worry about is wireless. That's probably going to be the case with most mainstream distros since they don't include a lot of wireless drivers.

I wouldn't expect to install any distro on a laptop without some minor issues that require some attention from you.

I had the sound problem with Mepis too and it's simply that the sound levels are minimized. If you've still got it, open a terminal and type 'alsamixer' or browse there through the menu and increase the volumes.

Don't you mean "What distro?" "Which distro?" implies that there are only 2 to choose from

English is such an easy language to get right.

I don't know about that....

"What distro?" makes me think he's never even heard of a distro.
"Which distro?" makes me think yeah there's so many.

But then I'm also American .....

I won't hold that against you

Being a teacher of the language, whenever I see basic grammar errors like that the hairs stand up on the back of my neck not too long ago I was reading quite a well reasoned post by someone here but there were three or four instances of "there" that should have been "their"

Not to mention the number of posts mistaking "it's" and "its"

Actually, on the BBC readers' letters page there are countless examples of the failings of modern British education and even stupid mistakes in the articles themselves!

But then I'm in a bl**dy-minded mood recently
