How can I install codecs??

Hi. Ive been trying to find codecs for .avi and encrypted dvd playback. I cannot find them using yum unless Im looking incorrectly. How can I get these media codecs?

Hello:
You can grab them from here : codecs
and use this guide to install them : Stanton-Finley
you may also want to copy them over into /usr/lib/codes as well

the thing that worked best for me was installing mplayer and mplayer-plugin for the mozilla plugins, and then installing vlc for regular avi's n stuff. it comes with every plugin out there.

The codecs are available as RPMs (mplayer-codecs-*) in

http://www.mplayerhq.hu/MPlayer/releases/codecs/

Those arent in my repos. How did you dl them? DId you get them from a website/Mirror?

nope, i got them from the livna repo. do a search for livna in the forum. it's the only repo i use apart from the official ones and it has EVERYTHING. bloody swiss army of non-open software.

rpm -ivh http://rpm.livna.org/livna-release-6.rpm
rpm --import http://rpm.livna.org/RPM-LIVNA-GPG-KEY
yum -y install mencoder

yum -y install mplayerplug-in
