couple questions on that.

1. is that using "console" as in systemtools->terminal?

2. does using those commands on the console require a specific package?

thanks for the help

I found the Konsole, I've used adsl-setup, went through all the possible variations of the setup (mostly changing the firewall settings hoping for it to work) but I still cannot connect to the internet. My computer recognizes the server with just the eth0 activated, when the adsl-setup or internet config wiz does the xdsl for me that will connect, verify and activate all fine but the internet will still not connect. Any suggestions? ADSL-SETUP WILL NOT FIX THE PROBLEM.

Try again!
On your terminal, use 'ifup ppp0' directly after 'adsl-setup'!

i tried that also.

the ppp0 device is active in my network window along with my active eth0 device.

i used the sbin/ifup ppp0
and the command to check the adsl status

all showed the connection was working properly.

but, each time i load mozilla i get the connectivity page for the housing complex.

the question now is whether i am connected but either the server or connection is not compatable or whether i am not truly connected through the adsl.... possible firewall problem...??

anyone have insight or advice?

Hey, folks, another n00b here with identical problem. Sometimes, though, my browser does connect, but it's hard to say what I did different. Often the connection is unstable and disappears without a good reason.

Also, after installing the rpppoe with GUI I can't find it in any of my Gnome menus.
