Intranet problem with FC6
I installed FC 6 on my AMD Athlon 64 3000+. The 64 bit version would not install, so I used the i386 version. My network card is Silicon Integrated Systems (SiS).
The installation essentially works. I can access the internet, etc. However, I am unable to access the servers on my intranet either by name or IP address. I can successfully ping them, but I cannot browse, telnet or ftp into any of the servers. I have successfully accessed another user's Linux box.
I do not have a static IP, it is assigned by the DHCP server, and I have confirmed the DNS entries are correct.
Has anyone seen this type of problem? I am wondering if there may be a driver incompatibility or a larger incompatibility since I installed the FC6 i386.

Are you sure your servers are running ftp or telnet services? these are not normally running by default when installing redhat or fedora. Give ssh a try.
If your servers are running redhat/fedora check which services they are running with the command
chkconfig --list
If the services are running check the /etc/hosts.allow and /etc/hosts.deny for access rights.
Good luck

The servers are all working fine. There are many other systems, using older RedHat versions, that can access the servers. I am only the second user to install Fedora.

Do you mean you cannot access the servers from a local lan machine or from a remote location on the internet?
If local then on the server is there a firewall enabled? If so open the needed ports to gain access.

Also check you have an entry in your /etc/host.allow file and not the /etc/host.deny file....

As I mentioned earlier, the problem is NOT with the servers. All of the other Linux systems can access the servers just fine. This an internal LAN. The servers do not have Firewalls. The problem is with my Linux system running FC6. There is either a driver incompatibility, or I have set something up wrong. --Jim

So you say you just installed FC6 on your computer, and you can browse the internet, ping the servers, so your network connectivity and ip addressing must be good. BUT you don't mention what OS your servers are running, Linux, Windows, or X, if it is windows you will need to setup Samba to be able to browse and access windows machines....

Problem solved
Thanks everyone. Replacing the nic with a different type resolved the problem. It was either a driver incompatibility or bad mac address. -- Jim
