Issues with Wireless Intel 2100 3B Mini PCI

Hello,
Can someone please help me out? I've got a wireless problem; I installed core 6 and everything works fine...except for the wireless card.

On boot up, eth0 works fine, but I get the following msg for eth1 :
Bringing up interface eth1: ipw 2100 device eth1 does not seem to be present, delaying initialization.

When I run “ /sbin/lspci “:
02:07.0 Network controller: Intel Corporation PRO/Wireless LAN 2100 3B Mini PCI Adapter (rev 04)
02:08.0 Ethernet controller: Intel Corporation 82801DB PRO/100 VE (MOB) Ethernet Controller (rev 81)

When I use system-config-network 1.3.96 to view my devices, eth0 is active, and eth1 is inactive. When i try to Activate it, I get the following: “Cannot activate network device eth1; ipw2100 device eth1 does not seem to be present, delaying initialization.”

Any help would be appreciated. I am new at this and giving it a shot after many yrs with winblows.
Thanks in advance
Bill

I think FC6 comes with built-in support for the Intel Pro Wireless 2100, the only thing you will need is the firmware from sourceforge.net:

http://ipw2100.sourceforge.net/firmware.php

If you need the drivers, sourceforge.net also has the drivers.....

Thanks for all the help. I got the firmware updated and came back to see Iron Mikes reply. I went to
http://fedoramobile.org/fc-wireless/ipw2x00-yum-livna/
after following h*klowns' links, and followed the instructions step by step to update the firmware using yum.
IT WORKS! I'm on using the wireless card now......however.
I still have a problem, it will not start up activated. I have to manually activate it every time. Connects like a charm!
So one more final call for help. Thanks.

If you go to system ->administration ->network, highlight the card and select edit. Put a check mark in "Activate on Boot" and "Allow users to enable and disable" blocks and reboot. One thing though if you are outside your home network, there will be a big delay when booting because it will not find your network. Better option would be to uncheck "activate on boot" mentioned above and enable the NetworkManager services by going to system ->administration ->services and put check marks in the NM services, save it and reboot. Then just click the NM icon when the computer reboots and it will show all the AP's that are in range, select one and double click and it should connect

yeah but for my motherboard.. i looked on google for a hour or so...

i looked under my keyboard.. I havent taken it all apart yet casue one screw is convered by the warrenty sticker.. and last time i took it apart it acted funny... i emailed them asking them if it even had a mini pci slot in it.

i would hate void warrenty on a new lappy just to find it doesnt have a minipci

Iron Mike,
I checked both boxes and re-booted. Initially the it said I was connected in a bubble box. Then NManager had a red slash through it, and it was not connected. Tried connecting to cnn, no way. The card didn't show active in the network configuration window, so I clicked activate. It actually errored out with:

Determining IP information for eth1...dhclient(2119) is already running - exiting.
exiting.
failed.

I had to deactivate and then reactivate for it to work properly. Any insight into this behavior? I can live with it by doing a manual connect, but since i don't broadcast my SSID, i can't go to NManager and just select my switch. I have to go to system-admin-network and enable it every time.
Thanks

You can still use Network Manager, after you left click NM icon, select "connect to other wireless" network and fill in the blanks for yours.

Still have to enter WEP Key though. I placed the Network on the panel for easy access and just enable through there. My other laptop is a breeze, Lucent WaveLan/IEEE wireless, and works as adverised. Thanks for ALL of your help, both Iron Mike and h*klown
