Unhappy Fedora Core 6 Shuts PC down in middle of Install

Hi Guys,

I'll admit, I'm really a newbie to all thing's linux..well, sorta.

Anyhow, I downloaded the cd images, installed them, found out I had an error on the first disk anyhow...so re installed the first image again on to a blank disc...get say half way through the fedora core 6 installation, and I get the dos screen popping ip beneath saying it's sending kill signal..and the pc shuts down.

So, two days ago, I search ebay for the Fedora DVD, I buy it, it arrives today.

I think..yess finally..maybe it will work.....booooyyyyy was I wrong!

The partitions down't seem to be the problem, though I have tried the format as both ext2 and ext3 and have had the sufficent linux swap in place too.

Whilst only installing it for office use, and indeed the same happens when trying to install al the default packages....it gets so far..and sends a kill signal!!!

I haven't had a successful install yet! Can someone give me any idea why it would do this every time?

I really am at the end of my tether!

Thanks

G3

Not really, but apparently Fedora does not like (understand) your hardware, or vice versa. This happens, I never succeeded to install OpenSuse on my desktop for example, it always hang during installation. Other distro's install ok. So I guess you have a hardware problem with fc6, try simply another distro to see if that works. Perhaps Ubuntiu is a good suggest, it recognizes lots of hardware.

Cheers, Paul.
