transfer files

I have some files on a floppy that I need to transfer to my home directory, I am using Gnome can anyone give me some simple instructions on transfering them from the floppy to the home directory.

cd /mnt/floppy
cp * /home/<homr_dir_name>

Just a though though, but is your floppy automounting when you insert a disk.

I believe all you have to do is insert the floppy. You might have to right click the desktop, Disks menu, Floppy. This will set it up and put an icon on the desktop. Open both this and your home directory and drag. If you have a three button mouse (including a wheel mouse with a button wheel) middle button drag and you will get a Copy, Move, Link menu.

Or if you prefer a terminal, you could run these commands:

mount /mnt/floppy
cp /mnt/floppy/* ~/some_directory

That moves the contents of the floppy drive to some_directory under your home, believe it or not.

>right click on desktop >menu will appear >flopply >click and the floppy will mount then you can copy your files.....

Thanks to you all for your replies it was so easy to do with the right instructions.
As I learn I shall be posting a lot more and it is nice to now their are so many knowledable people who will help out a newbie.
