Poor sound quality with RealPlayer

Hi, I just installed Fedora 6 with much less trouble than I expected (I am a Linux newbie). The only known bug I have now is the poor sound quality from RealPlayer 10. Playing streaming audio (such as BBC) or MP3s from local disk with realplayer results in a stuttering, glitchy sound. I have used various hints on the net including setting SoundDriver to 2. I'm using an oldish Toshiba Satellite 4600 laptop. It has a 1 Ghz processor though and plenty of memory. The CPU is only running at some 10-15% average.

RhytmPlayer works fine for ogg and with the codecs from Fluendo also for MP3 and WMA.

Any hints anybody?

Thanks!

Arto

Thanks, I think I used an earlier version of these hints w/o all the bells and whistles. I'll try this out. I can't help thinking that there should be an easier way to install a mediaplayer... :-)

It works! No glitches, not stutter! It did in fact seem to install new drivers. Thanks a bunch! -Arto
