    Can't compile the driver!

    I am trying to compile the driver for web cam Logitech 4000 pro. I have installed kernel-headers and kernel-devel i686 & i86_64 and lots of another development software. I used this link to install proper soft
    http://forums.fedoraforum.org/forum/...cc+compilation
    But the compilation doesn't work. It worked well on FC5_64! What's wrong with FC6?

    The error message is below:

    Your driver needs revision. Drivers aren't supposed to use linux.config.h - it's been deprecated for some time and recently removed. Some of the syntax erorr are due to use of the GCC4.1.x compiler which does tighter checking.

    You could reduce the error/warning count by using the lagacy compiler (from the rpm repo) but you'll still have a little work to do.

    BTW it appears to me that a pwc-if driver is included in the 2.6.19 kernel source. It should be trivial to rebuild a kernel with pwc-if enabled (it's not enabled in the FC releases, but it is in the FCn kernel sources).

    [[[edit]]]
    Oops - mybad.

    The module already appears in the modules tree.
    /lib/modules/2.6.19-1.2911.fc6/kernel/drivers/media/video/pwc/pwc.ko
    /lib/modules/2.6.19-1.2911.6.4.fc6/kernel/drivers/media/video/pwc/pwc.ko

    Not certain, but see if this is the driver module you want.
    Try "modprobe pwc" and see what happens.
    ---
    driver for the pwc.ko that comes with your kernel is self-described as
    webcams:
    * Philips PCA645, PCA646
    * Philips PCVC675, PCVC680, PCVC690
    * Philips PCVC720/40, PCVC730, PCVC740, PCVC750
    * Philips SPC900NC
    * Askey VC010
    * Logitech QuickCam Pro 3000, 4000, 'Zoom', 'Notebook Pro'
    and 'Orbit'/'Sphere'
    * Samsung MPC-C10, MPC-C30
    * Creative Webcam 5, Pro Ex
    * SOTEC Afina Eye
    * Visionite VCS-UC300, VCS-UM100

    The PCA635, PCVC665 and PCVC720/20 are not supported by this driver
    and never will be, but the 665 and 720/20 are supported by other
    drivers.

    Some newer logitech webcams are not handled by this driver but by the
    Usb Video Class driver (linux-uvc).

    The built-in microphone is enabled by selecting USB Audio support.

    Same problem with Logitech 4000 and have been trying to get it right for quite a while. Running FC6 and kernel latest but how do I get the kernel source as I need it to get it right. Been looking but can't find how I can get source files for kernel and as a relative newbie, I assumed they would be installed with the kernel?

    Hello:
    Normally all you require is the matching kernel-devel and kernel-headers rpms(s)
    yum install kernel-devel kernel-headers
    then you should be good to go

    In /lib/modules, I see three directories: 2.6.10-1.727_FC3, 2.6.19-1.2911.6.5.fc6, 2.6.19-1.2911.fc6 Each directory has similar content. In the two newest, the "build" and "Source" are flashing red.
    [root@localhost modules]# cd 2.6.19-1.2911.fc6
    [root@localhost 2.6.19-1.2911.fc6]# ls
    build modules.dep modules.pcimap updates
    extra modules.ieee1394map modules.seriomap weak-updates
    kernel modules.inputmap modules.symbols
    modules.alias modules.isapnpmap modules.usbmap
    modules.ccwmap modules.ofmap source

    I have deleted the old fc3 directory. Should I delete the older directory from the two remaining and then do a "make" to compile the module?

    Well forget all the foregoing. I downloaded the latest test Fedora and it recognizes my Logitech Pro 4000 and driver pwc. But in Kopete, I can't get a picture and I can't send and receive video from other webcams. By the way, in downloaded the new test FC6 preceding what will be FC7, when booted it told me I had 254 program updates. DL failed as there were errors, however, when I downloaded and installed a new kernel from the list, I was able to download and install ALL the updates with no problem - for all those who await Fedora 7!!
    So now that pwc is recognized, I still get no picture.
