Switching my server over from Windows 2003 to FC6

I have a local intranet server that shares files on my network using Windows Server 2003 I am going to change over to Fedora as the OS for many reasons some being the added security and the fact that Fedora is free.

What packages should I install when making the install as well as which additional Repositories should i use in this configuration.

I am not going to be hosting any internet public shares it will be used only on an intranet platform but I would like to use this as a test for Public use to better get familiar with FC and Linux

What services do you currently run on the win2003 box, and do you wish to have similar services on the fc6 box?

From your post you currently run:

Windows service <-> fc6 service
IIS (intranet) <-> apache
Filesharing <-> samba

what about printing, are you running any client applications on the windows box?

More information is needed. but from the sounds of it, just the vanilla install is all you need.

Just a suggestion but Fedora is a 'cutting edge' distro with a 6 month release cycle. For a server perhaps it would be wiser to go for a more 'stable' distro. Of course RedHat is one option but it costs $$$. Something like CentOS, which uses the stable RedHat release but with all the RH branding removed. But for a home/hobbyist Fedora is fine.

Most of my services are infact basic features however i would like to use the FC server as a secondary DNS server on my lan so that I can simply enter a intranet site name like "games" and have it load my site on gameing.

With regards to rondonjin's statement, I am not using any mission critical stuff it is more or less just fil shareiing and a few Intranet sites.
