FC6 hangs (sometimes) at boot

I run FC6 on a DELL dimension 4600.
Monitor type is a DELL 1703(Digital)
Video card: nVidia GeForce 5400
Installed kernel & kmod:
kernel.i686 2.6.19-1.2895.fc6
kmod-nvidia.i686 1.0.9746-1.2.6.19_1.28

When booting the computer sometimes ( to me at random) after having started all daemons, the boot process stops with a dark grey screen. It does not come to the login screen.

Has anybode experienced the same issue and is there a solution to it?

THanks

That's probably the wrong driver. You might need one of the kmod-nvidia-96xx drivers.

I did that, but the behaviour of the system is the same. From time to time the computer does not boot properly and hangs with a blank screen just before getting to the login screen.

This almost sounds more like a hardware issue than a software one. The software doesn't change and will do the same thing every time... unless you go in and change it. You might consider either running memtest86 for several hours (to check your RAM thoroughly) or maybe just open the box up and look for a card that might not be seated perfectly. Or do both.

I just don't see how the software would work sometimes and not others. Other things to think about, does a reboot usually fail after it's been running for a while (overheating?) or if the computer's been sitting for a long time (gotten cold and a card is loose?).

Just some thoughts.
