Unhappy Desktop dies after FC6 install

Hi everyone,

Any idea why my desktop dies after a clean FC6 install?

At boot-up process, I do have a graphical interface, but when the boot-up process completed. The desktop dies and kick me out to the command console login prompt.
If I login at the command console, there is a /tmp/.X0-lock file and if I delete /tmp/.X0-lock and lauch startx. I got a full functional desktop. If I logout under the System pull down menu, my X server crashes and kick me back to the command console. The /tmp/.X0-lock file was automatical removed.

See in the file /var/log/messages or in the /var/log/Xorg.0.log for messages about the failure.

You can use any text editor to do this.

Thanks for the headup looking in the log file.

Couldn't find /var/X11/XFree86.0.log. I guest FC6 don't use this log file, however, poking around at the other log file. There is some trace on the Frame Buffer memories problem.

I farther isolate the problem by restart vs shutdown. If I reboot, it happen but if I completely shutdown the server, the problem seem to go away. This tell me the Xserver must have memories leaks. This must be a bug, how can I report it.....

You can go to:

http://directory.fedora.redhat.com/wiki/Bugs

And see how to report a bug. Good luck

I have a similar situation...

I added mysql 5.0 server using the Gnome GUI to add applications. MySQl installed great but now I do not have a gnome desktop anymore. I think it is X that is running.
All I get is a clock, a terminal window, and a Firefox window.

How do I get my Gnome desktop back?
