about totem...

i have install totem video player on my desktop... but i can play .dat or .mpeg file...could anyone help me?

If you CAN watch them, I'm sure we could help you configure your system so that you can't.

But if what you really meant was [you] CAN'T play them, then try searching the forum and reading the FAQ. This topic has been covered about 1million + 1 times.

Because you dont have totem xine or the codecs you need. Do some reading.

ahh, ok, I'll give... I dont think MJM deals with Totem specifically. What you want to do is install yumex so you can see what you are doing.

yum install yumex

then you want to fire that up and REMOVE totem. Thats right, get rid of it. Then install Totem-Xine. Look at the packages in yumex and you will see I'm not pulling your leg here. Then you will want to pick up the codecs. Someone jump in here and tell him the exact package but it is the "good the bad and the ugly" from Livna. You really need to read the FAQ, it explains all this.

edit: Good one Leigh, Fedora FAQ deals with totem.

gstreamer allows all the files to be played as well with the good bad and ugly plugins installed.
im using the freshrpms dries etc repositories and it adds all that to my add/remove software tool. then i added the plugins through there and they play.
