Lightbulb Network Location idea

hey,

If anyone has used macos x 10.2 or 10.3, then they will prob know where im comming from.

Say you regularly connected to different networks, in osx you can give settings for each one, then pick off a list, the location you are at. so for example, a laptop system can be set to "home" mode which uses static ips and dns, then be taken to a "work" location which uses dhcp. all the user has to do is select from a dropdown, which location they are at.

does anyone know of a similar app for linux??

KDE has a wireless manager - I haven't used it, but I've seen it and it seems to do what you want.

Fedora has hardware profiling support. It does what you're asking, but I've never set it up... should be identical to Red Hat's.
I think the network config gui even has support for it...

You'd need to select your profile at boot..
