Unhappy Adobe Reader cannot start after upgrade to fc6

After upgrading to fc6 from fc5, the Adobe Reader cannot start, ie, after double click the acroread icon, no respond at all.

I install the Tradional Chinese basic version: AdobeReader_cht-7.0.0-2.i386.rpm, I remove it and re-install the full version: AdobeReader_cht-7.0.9-1.i386.rpm, the problem persists. Then I remove the 7.0.9 version and reinstall the basic AdobeReader_cht-7.0.0-2 version still cannot resolve the problem.

Please advise and help...

Hello:
If you follow the guide here to install Adobe Acrobat for FC6 you should be fine:

Thank you Seve for your prompt reply. But I am aware of this installation guide and had followed the instruction to amend the file in /usr/local/Adobe/Acrobat7.0/bin/acroread. It is now installed with the cht-7.0.9 full version in tradional chinese. I notice that the patch only apply ro version 7.0.8 or 7.0.9 but not the version 7.0.0-2 version. The problem persist for both version.
Please advise Seve....

I'm seeing the same issue on this. I installed AdobeReader_enu-7.0.9-1.i386.rpm from Adobe's site, but it just hangs and chews CPU when I start it. When I try launching it from a terminal, I get the following message:

expr: syntax error

Any ideas? Adobe lists 7.0.9 as the current version, with 8 for Linux simply listed as "coming soon".

Hello:
You are receiving the above error because you have not made the two required changes to acroread.
If you follow the instructions here : http://www.mjmwired.net/resources/mj...6.html#acrobat

You should be fine.

Seve, my problem is different from rabidmonkey. I try to run 'acroread in a terminal, it pauses for a while, then return a cursor, like this:

[sammy@sammy ~]$ acroread
[sammy@sammy ~]$

I have re-installed the cht-7.0.9 full version in tradional chinese and have changed the two lines in /usr/local/Adobe/Acrobat7.0/bin/acroread

Please advise...

May I know how to trace the log of a command after hitting enter, like my previous post so that I can trace what has happened after enterring the command "acroread" ?

I read that if you get the following message when you try to run adobe:

expr: syntax error

simply comment out line 644 of acroread.

I tried it and it worked.
