To the best of my knowledge, TurboTax is not going to run under linux. Perhaps someone's had luck with using wine, but I haven't seen anything about it. You might consider this instead: https://www.taxactonline.com/s_onlin...ntro_index.asp

Well, let me see if I can correct myself. Here's what I can find under Google:

Checked that one out and it looks like one solution. Since I already have the software I think I'll try that Wine thing.

Yes!!! That works. I checked with another beginner and he says he did his taxes with no problem.

I have had a dual boot system (Windows and Fedora) since 2004. Therefore, I always run Turbotax in Windows. I do so because I consider running a tax program under an emulator and not in its native operating system system too much of a risk to take. Now if your gross income is less than 52,000 then by all means go to www.irs.gov and click on the FREE FILE links.

Here is a scenario for you. You run Turbotax under Wine and you do your taxes. The Turbotax error checking and audit alerts all pass with flying colors. But, there could be a calculation that goes wrong or an internal error that is not detected by you or turbotax. You file your return electronically. Six weeks later you get a letter from the IRS with questions. So, I run Windows to do your taxes. For me it is a small price to pay for piece of mind.
