laptop "overheating" need help

So apparently my laptop overheats about half the time when booting up linux. I realized that it only occurs if the last OS I ran was Linux. If I boot up Windows, shut down Windows, and then boot up Linux, it works fine. During the Linux boot process (only if Linux was the last OS running) I get a "critical temperature reached: 128 celcius" message and it proceeds to shut down. Does anyone know how I can just reboot Linux without booting up Windows inbetween? Thanks in advanced.

try enabling cpuspeed if you have the package install configure it and it should reduce the heat by lower the cpu speed when ide/non heavy work load
