Link volume of two channels in alsa

I have an Dell Inspiron 9300, the sound card works great, but the thing is that the Bass and the regalar range are on two channels. Generally the volume on each should be the same to get good sound.

In order to do this I have to control two channels, which sucks because it doesn't work with the media button I have on my computer.

Is there a way to link the two channels in alsa so that changing the volume in one changes the volume on both channels?

I tried to google, but all I could find was information on making multiple channels into a surrouns system, which didn't really seem to be pertinent.

I have the same laptop and the same problem. I have not been able to find a solution yet and loading up alsamixer everytime I want to change the volume is driving me nuts.

Since you have the same machine - something a little off topic - I seem to have a problem burning DVDs. They burn fine but then won't automount when I try and use them, they won't work in Windows machines. I can get them to load with mount /dev/scd0 /media/cdrom, but they are slow and alot of errors come up in dmesg.

I have a lovely collection of coasters that I hope not to contribute to.

Yes there is. I remember reading this post last night and actually discovered this by accident. If you right click on your sound button on the panel and go to preferences, a little window will pop up where you select what device and track you want to control. If you hold shift or ctrl you should be able to highlight more than one device. You might have to logout/reboot for changes to take affect.

This didn't seem to work for me... it shows the volume control as Master/Master Mono but it still doesn't seem to control the "subwoofer."

ETA: I just saw that this thread is from 2007. I hope someone can still help.

Yup that worked! I can't believe it took me what, two years to figure out something that simple! I didn't even think to try the standard CTRL + Click for multi-selection, lol.
