Rawhide

Today I upgraded an old FC6 install to Rawhide. I see a few problems with it and am confused as to where to report these 'bugs' or ask questions about it. Additionally, I don't see too much discussion of Rawhide in these forums. Are there many users here using Rawhide?

Here's what I see as an oddity. I have three hard disks installed in this computer. In FC6 they are seen as /dev/hda b and d. In Rawhide they are seen as /dev/sda ,b and c. The disks are all ATA and not SATA. Here's fdisk -l in Rawhide:

Quote:
[glenn@dad ~]$ sudo /sbin/fdisk -l
Password:

Disk /dev/sda: 160.0 GB, 160041885696 bytes

Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System

Go to Fedora News at the top of the forums, then click on the Fedora Portal tab.

And start reading the lists

devl
extras
announce

You probably should have asked your questions first as rawhide is changing in many ways.

I suggest you just plug along and learn on what you NOW have and then download and re-install FC7T1 when is comes out next month.

To answer your question about the hd and sa
The newer kernels treat the hard disks as scsi dev because the scsi driver code is now used in the ata drivers. This is good except for machines that had their hd dev configured logically somehow vs. the normal pci control seq.
In such cases an hde could become an sdf or such.

Be careful about what you update from now until FC7T1 is out, coz there is no going back from here on out.

Great! I didn't think of looking at Fedora News.

I knew what I was getting into. I did some reading before I jumped in. Plus, as I said, this is an older install that is disposable.

So this is what one would expect to see then? I'll have to look closely at what's mounted. Apparently things aren't necessarily going to be where I'm used to them being.

It's disposable, I can always reinstall and start over. That's what I do.

Sure will. Matter of fact, Gnome Terminal crashed on me in the last session. Error message suggested installing bug-buddy and submitting reports. I'll file reports. That's not too much to ask. I've certainly taken a lot from the Linux community. Gotten tons of help from people in the forums and resources on the web. I look at this as a way to give back. My pleasure.
