Exclamation Special keys of my laptop work randomly

Hello everybody.

I have a problem (minor considered to others) with my laptop running FC6.

In GNOME there is a way to assign functions to the 'special keys' (FUNCTION + Key) through Keyboard Shortcuts and I have already assigned the Volume 'keys' of my laptop. The problem is that when I try to change the volume of the speakers using the 'special keys' the procedure works RANDOMLY. Sometimes I can change the volume, others I have to use the touchpad.

The question is: which one is the service (services) required by the Keyboard Shortcuts to work? How (if it is a way to do so) can I make the Shortcuts work?

Here's a short tutorial that may help. The section labeled "keyboard shortcuts" and "Custom application launchers" both fit what you're talking about.
