creating spare partition

Hi,

should this work without causing trouble? I am trying to be careful as the laptop belongs to my company and not me.
I have ferrari 4005 with two 50GB FAT32 partitions. I am planning to resize D:\ by booting from windows XP CD and then there is part where it shows list of existing partitions and gives choice to remove, create partitions of diffrent sizes. I am planing to break the D:\ into two parts. 15 GB Fedora and the rest 35GB to be FAT32.
This should work without touching (damaging) C:\ where windows sit, shouldn't it? If this is doable I should be OK with dual boot because I have done it before.

It should. If you can resize it, the Fedora installer can just use the unallocated space.

Be sure to backup any data.

Hi,

I have used my exgirlfriend's PC to test it first. There is actually no need to use windows CD. It is good enough to right click "My Computer" in Windows then select "Manage" then select "Disk Management". Because I already had spare logical drive (D:\) I deleted it and created a new one 35 GB and left about 12 GB unallocated. Then when Fedora was installing I just selected to install in free space and everything went fine.

Then I typed startx in the console after I logged in becase the graphical installation failed and screen went black and nothing happened. I will look in the laptop section on this forum for same help but otherwise I am happy this type of installation works.
