Unhappy setting screen resolution

I just got a laptop running Fedora 1.0, and I'm having a terrible time making it work with my external monitor. My old laptop (running Red Hat 7.3) worked with this monitor fine after I set the screen resolution to 1280x1024. However, I can't seem to set the resolution in Fedora!

I try going to System Settings -> Display and setting the resolution, but even though I make changes in the box, nothing takes hold. When I go to Preferences -> Screen Resolution, 1280x1024 isn't an option. How do I fix this?

Thanks,
Jesse

Have you configured dual monitors?

System Settings > Display, Dual Head tab.

Configure your second display and try 'Individual Desktops' for the Desktop Layout.

Did you configure your video card also? it is important to know type and model of video card to make display proper settings!

To answer the questions in the previous posts, I have not configured dual monitors. I just want to run the external monitor instead of my laptop monitor. My video card is an ATI Radeon Mobility M9 card (is that enough info?).

However, I think the main problem is just when I run the System Settings -> Display dialog. Nothing I do in this dialog ever takes effect, and every time I run the command I find three core.* files are generated.

Laptop LCD display resolution

Hi,

I am trying to configure display settings on my laptop running Fedora Core 3..
The screen size is a little different to normal, its 1440 x 900. At the moment the screen picture doesnt take up the whole screen. from lefr to right. And it is too long (I loose a bit off the bottom of the screen)

Also, the monitor wasnt detected, so I chose Default TFT.

Should I edit the XF86Config file and change the DisplaySize manually to get the display to fit correctly in the screen?

Section "Monitor"
...
DisplaySize 400 300
HorizSync 30.0 - 61.0
VertRefresh 50.0 - 75.0
Option "dpms"

I've read around the forums and docs, and it seems the display size is the actual size in mm of the screen. Is this correct?

Best wishes,
Andrew

I've got the same problem as the first post in this thread with th ree exceptions. One, I'm not trying to use an external monitor. Two, I'm using FC4 instead of FC1. Three, the problem happened after I upgraded the kernel after a yum update. Has there been any progress on a resolution to this issue, maybe in another thread?.

Thanks for the help,
Nat
