Apart from this, not much is working.

Did anybody find a way to connect a Samsung mobile phone to a computer running linux which made it possible to copy mp3 files, photos or even contact lists to and from the phone?

    try:

    mount -t vfat /dev/sda1 /mnt

You will see tour information in /mnt directory

    [root@ dev]# mount -t vfat /dev/sdb /mnt
    mount: No medium found

Could it be that the phone is just functioning as a card reader (and there is no SD card inside?)

    Re: Samsung Mobile Phone

sounds like the phone is acting like a haarddrive. thats what its set to do. as long as you see an icon for the phone on the desktop as soon as you connect it than you can put mp3 files on it. make sure you look for the music folder in the "phone/HDD" and then drag and drop your files onto the phone.
