caret does not display properly in FC6

Hi,

I have an ASUS board with integratedNVIDIA graphics and the problem is that I cannot see a correct caret (text cursor). It blinks as it's supposed to, but when it appears, it may not be displayed completely. The vertical line is updated only partially. How could this be?

Best regards,
Calin

I'm assuming that you're talking about the cursor in a web browser or word processor or anything that uses that really skinny cursor. I'm also assuming that the cursor blinks, but it does an up-down motion instead. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

I think that's an issue with the open source video driver. I've had that happen before, and since you're running an nvidia display, go to rpm.livna.org & get the yum repo. Afer that's done, type yum install kmod-nvidia. Using nvidia's official drivers fixed it for me.

Hi,

thanks for the pointer. It now works perfectly. There are 2 splash screens that NVIDIA offers when starting up the OS (text and GUI stages). Those are not so anoying. I had to install some kernel rpms in order to compile the driver. It seems that I now have 3 images like so:

title Fedora Core (2.6.18-1.2868.fc6)
root (hd0,2)
kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.18-1.2868.fc6 ro root=LABEL=/ rhgb quiet
initrd /boot/initrd-2.6.18-1.2868.fc6.img
title Fedora Core (2.6.18-1.2868.fc6xen)
root (hd0,2)
kernel /boot/xen.gz-2.6.18-1.2868.fc6
module /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.18-1.2868.fc6xen ro root=LABEL=/ rhgb quiet
module /boot/initrd-2.6.18-1.2868.fc6xen.img
title Fedora Core (2.6.18-1.2849.fc6xen)

I would like to remove the oldest version. I guess these are kernel images; can you tell me how can I uninstall one?

Best regards,
Calin
