FC6 Greeter application crashing

Hi, I am Linux beginner. I'm getting error pop-ups concerning the greeter application crashing after installing it. It is a dual-boot system using GRUB boot loader
I've installed the GNOME and KDE desktop environments.
Since I'm new to Linux, could someone provide me a solution on how to fix this problem?

Can you describe this in a more detail?

What exactly is happening and if there are pop-ups what do they say?
Or this the gui welcome screen [where you log in ] not coming up?
Have you successfully gone through the first boot steps as outlined here:

I've followed the first boot steps and I'm still getting that message.
"The Greeter application seems to be crashing. Attempting to use a different one."
