You will have to edit xorg.conf and add the line:

modes "1280x1024"

to the bottom of the display section. Edit the screen res. to what yours is.

ha, lol! That does pose a bit of a problem doesnt it? Well, short of hooking up another monitor I think your best bet would be to DL a live Linux CD, unless you already have one. Then you can boot into that and get into the FC6 partition to change the xorg.conf. Short of that I guess youd have to reinstall using the modes argument at the install prompt.

You don't need another live CD if you have the install CDs. Just pop in the install CD, at the prompt enter "linux rescue" and follow your nose.

When you get a shell prompt, edit the file in /mnt/sysimage/... or "chroot /mnt/sysimage" and edit the file where you expect it.

At least FC5 had a rescue mode, I ain't up to FC6 yet.

well i used a live cd. This is the screen section from xorg.conf. Does depth refer to colour depth? Can i get rid of it all but the resolution i'm going to use?

I dont know why you have all those mode listings. Here is a copy of mine:

Code:
# Xorg configuration created by pyxf86config

Section "ServerLayout"
	Identifier "Default Layout"
	Screen 0 "Screen0" 0 0
	InputDevice "Keyboard0" "CoreKeyboard"
EndSection

Section "Files"
	ModulePath "/usr/lib/xorg/modules/extensions/nvidia"
	ModulePath "/usr/lib/xorg/modules"
EndSection

Section "InputDevice"
	Identifier "Keyboard0"
	Driver "kbd"
	Option "XkbModel" "pc105"
	Option "XkbLayout" "us"
EndSection

Section "Device"
	Identifier "Videocard0"
	Driver "nvidia"
	Option "AddARGBGLXVisuals" "True"
EndSection

Section "Screen"
	Identifier "Screen0"
	Device "Videocard0"
	DefaultDepth 24
	SubSection "Display"
		Viewport 0 0
		Depth 24
		Modes "1280x1024"
	EndSubSection
EndSection
This should be all you need to get started.
