LDAP Setup

Hello all,

It's been a while since I've posted ha... must mean I'm finally getting the hang of Linux. Anyway I've got a question About LDAP.

I'm starting from square one here so please bear with me. I'm running a FC4 proxy server that has been nothing but flawless for about a year and half now. My boss wants me to setup an LDAP server on it since the company I work for won't let me spend the money on a Exchange 2003 book that explains how to do it.

I need to know what LDAP server to use in Fedora. I see there is an ldap.conf file in the /etc folder but other than that I'm clueless. I just need a point in the right direction so I can start figuring this out.

Thanks All
Eric

Your main options seem to be OpenLDAP and Fedora directory server.

I've heard the directory server has setup tools and some documentation.

Jman... thanks for the reply,

OpenLdap is what I'm using. I've got it up and running now just one small problem left. I'm having a hard time understanding how to impute entries. I know the server exits because I can browse to it now with IE but when I do a search it's empty which is obvious since I haven't put anything in to it yet.

All I really want to use this for is to add a bunch of email address, that's it, nothing fancy, just a list of all our email addresses.

This is the config I've been following http://www.openldap.org/doc/admin23/quickstart.html

Any help would be great
Thanks
Eric

With Internet Explorer? Not familiar with using that for directories.

My current directory experience is rather limited, although I do want setup a simple config to do email address list like you're attempting here.

An OpenLDAP specific support resource might be of more use to you.

I got the server up and running but never did figure out how to put the addresses into it. We found a different tool on HP's site so that we could just import our email address right into our Digital Senders.

Thanks for all the help
